ok i dont want to buy new bulbs so i was wondering if theres a SAFE and useful way that i can cover/dim my fish tank lights so that the water isnt so bright....it seems to stress out my fish when i turn on the lights and it gets anoyying..thanx

How about some floting plants like frog bit or red root flooters.

I use computer paper cut to size under the lights. 20 watt Florecent lights only!!

You Could use aluminum Foil.....cut it as you see fit to create shadow areas... if you want to minimize the lights glare off the foil...Photographic supply house sell a really heavy weight foil that has a black mat finish to it... This foil would be to cover the tank lids...not the light fixture.

ON the spooking when you turn on the lights... The fish should get used to any light levels... often what stresses them is your presence and movement when the lights go on.....maybe trying a timer set to turn on 15-20 minutes before you enter the room.

Floating plants live or plastic. Also you can put window screen under the light bulb it filters out the light, but lets some through. If it's still too bright double the window screen.
