I am thinking about setting up a 50G tank in my home office. I generally prefer things cool and dry (I live in a hot and humid part of Texas, USA). I am trying to decide if a discus tank would overwhelm the room with humidity or not. I would like to keep the tank water warm as I am told they are much more active at 85 than they are at 80.

I can buy a dehumidifier, but I thought I would ask. I know a lot will depend if the tank is open top or not, but I was hoping someone here could advise. Otherwise it is going to be a 75-77 degree mbuna tank. Thanks!

I have 20 aquariums +/- a few from 20 to 100 gallons(~800 gals).
My relative humidity is 35% to 45% in the Winter.
Summer time it is 20% to 35%
All my tanks have glass covers.
Humidity in my area is generally low. in We have an average annual precipitation of ~17 inches. Semi-arid.

hi Apistomaster, how much money do you pay for electricity each month?

I'm on budget billing plan so my bill is the same every month. $125 and that includes electric baseboard heating. Winter high may be as much as nearly $400 while some months are only $35.
Electricity is cheaper in the PNW since our power is derived from many hydroelectric dams on our major rivers.
