Hello,

My tap water is liquid baking soda, with a little bit of table salt added. Almost no Ca++ or Mg++. It is very high in carbonates, sodium, and has some chloride. pH is high sevens to eight.

What do I need to do to this water to make it good for keeping (not breeding) discus? RO/DI, use buffers, add acid, whatever. Thank you for any help.

Get yourself a 55 gallon plastic drum and use it as a holding tank for your water and treat it with Prime an airstone and a heater to keep it the same temp as your tank. When you are ready to do water changes in your tank, then use the water out of your 55 gallon drum to replace it with. Your PH is fine for keeping your discus healthy.

Really? You don't think that the pH is too high and the gH too low?

gH low will be good when it comes to breeding and most here have water in the 7's and 8's. Mine is 7.5-8.0 gH 9-11. I keep them just fine.

No your PH isn't too high, I keep my discus in PH of 8.6 and they are as healthy as can be.
