Will aquatic plants do anything to the hardness of your water? The reason im asking this is because i know some plants such as duckweed are rarely rooted in soil therefore the must receive their nutrients directly from the water, right? So if that theory is correct, will the plants lower the TDS or hardness?

I can't move your post
Plants will use some calcium and magnesium, but over all don't do anything to lower your PH or TDS. They do have many benefits though, one that is well known is using ammonia and nitrate. RO is your best bet, and most stable way to lower PH and TDS.
