I've heard that Juvenile discus should be kept at a higher temp than adults. Does anyone know why this is? Does the higher temperature promote growth, or is it preventative measures for parasites and bacteria. I keep my juvenile fish at 84 degrees, but I've heard that 86-88 is better? I'd go higher, but I don't think my plants could handle it.

84F is fine. Because fish are cold blooded, the higher the temp, the more they eat. So, it follows that many think that more food equals more growth. One factor that is overlooked in that logic is that the fish require more food just to maintain the higher metabolism the higher heat causes because that (higher metabolism) requires more energy. To me, there is no gain. I have not noticed any difference in maintaining juveniles at 86F than 84F.
