normal gill filaments?

I am wondering what "normal" gill filaments look like. That is, how much of them should be visible beyond the gill plate? Should the edges of the filament be smooth, or is it normal for them to look a little ragged?

I have some discus that are showing some ragged filaments, and are flashing once in a while, but are eating just fine, and behaving normally.
