How do discus grow?

If this belongs in the beginner's forum, please move. Do discus grow gradually in that they grow about the same amount every month or do they grow in spurts meaning they may not grow much for a while and then grow alot?

From my understanding, and what others have said, it seems as though discus grow fastest during the fry and juvenile stage. Once they hit the 3.5" to 4" mark they may slow down a bit. I can't be for sure, but from peoples growth pictures and watching the challenge fish, seems like at the 6 month stage growth backs off a bit.
