Washington State home of the we will take away every freedom you have and if we can make money on it we will has a cell phone law starting tomorrow. If an officer observes you driving while talking and can pull you over for a different infraction they can also give you a $124.00 ticket for having a phone held up to your ear.

This is from the same state that helps Indians with their Casinos yet tells us we can't gamble on line while they have their State Lotto every day where the worse odds there is in gambling.

No matter your view I want to give you the link below to help you out if you are in this state, or another like Cali whose law goes tomorrow also.

Link is to hand free sets to buy paying shipping only.
This will stop the cops pulling you over for something stupid they never would have done before but now it's worth another $124.00 to the state so they will be under pressure to collect those revenues.

BTW. Cali's fine is only $20.00. Washington State never has seen a tax that isn't over a $100.00 if they can get it.

Yep in California the base fine for the first offense is $20 and $50 for subsequent convictions. With the addition of penalty assessments, the fines can be more than triple the base fine amount.

Ok, I'll just do the text-messaging while driving, the new cell phone law does not prohit this,
there's the loop hole.

Cliff. They passed that text law in WA State earlier this year.
I agree with that law though. LOL!
Texting is way to much time off observing what is going on in front of you.

I read an article today that said in NJ a few years after passing a law like we have they made it not a secondary infraction in order to bring in more revenues. They of course said it was for safety. LOL!

Yet, fact is if you are talking your attentiveness is down no matter if you holding the phone or not. Some can handle it some can't. The ones that can't should get pulled over just like anyone excessively speeding or going to slow impeding traffic.

Greg,

I think you guys are getting off lightly. Our laws are draconian where this is concerned.

In the UK since 27 February 2007, anyone caught using a hand-held mobile phone while driving will be awarded three penalty points and a fine of £60, and if convicted in court, the maximum fine is £1,000 (£2,500 for drivers of vans, lorries, buses and coaches).

If you accrue 12 points on your licence you will be banned from driving for a minimum period of 6 weeks up to a maximum of 5 years.

If it can be shown that you were using the mobile phone at the time of an accident you can be imprisoned for up to 2 years.

Ridiculous! A very annoying day!! I hate this blue tooth...AFTER I got it to work, standing in line so they can "pair it up"....as the directions were totally WRONG....:mad:

If I did not need one for my work cell I would never have gotten one!

In Sac alone, they pulled over 28 cars by noon! Don't they have better things to do?

So ~

We can still drink and eat, while we drive right?, shave....read, put on make up?..... Just can't hold that phone...

O.K.A.Y Then....

Well everyone, I hate these new laws just like all of ya.....that being said however, just 2 wks ago, driving my truck on rt 57 to my "gun club", thank the Lord I was paying attention cuz a car suddenly "came at me", straight on in my lane, never hit a brake, must've been over 60 mph, & passed so close I thought I was a goner, then ran straight off the road behind me into a culvert....an 18 wheeler was right beside him also toward me, but in his lane, & he stopped, seeing the near-hit....so I was able to swerve into the oncoming lane & over the other side & stop; believe me I was a shaking mess.....now, I have a blue tooth, which I love & use frequently, even at home 'round the house & barn, just wasn't on it that time....so, it only takes seconds for tragedy to happen, & I count myself very lucky to have avoided that one.....JME,

Dottie

No matter what you think, talking on the phone while driving is a huge distraction period. Even if you are pro-multi tasker and expert driver, which I consider myself as one, it's still a distraction and takes your ability to drive away. Your 50% may be better than other's 100%, still you are being distracted. I find it very strange that when I talk with someone in the car, it's not at all distracting, but when on the phone, whether or not using the hands free set, I find it very distracting. It's not a matter of using hands free set or not. Yes, it's a stupid law. As a matter of fact, they should ban talking on the phone while driving altogether.

Also, eating while driving is illegal. You can drink, though.
