My extended family and I are traveling in Aug. to see some other relatives in Pinehurst. I would like to go to a public aquarium there but a search pulled up more than one. Which would you recommend either in North C. or South C.?

I think the one at Fort Fisher is the closest one to Pinehurst, although it's a bit out of the way:

I've not been there for years, but it was remodeled a few short years ago. While you're there, you can also visit Southport (mostly little shops there) via the Ferry:

Personally, I enjoy visiting Wilmington for the Cotton Exchange - lots of unique shops and restaurants there, plus you can look over the waterway and see the Battleship North Carolina:
