Is there anything to the rumor that coffee (1 pint Starbuck's (no latte or sweeteners) or better) in a 90 gallon discus tank has a Viagra-like effect? Why not? It's organic, from the headwaters of the Amazon and keeps you awake and alert.

I have raised discus successsfully years ago, using RO, but have had no eggs in a couple years (no more RO).

Caffine and Viagra have such a different physiologic effect on humans, I fail to see what you are really asking. Caffine is a stimulant. Viagra was originally a heart medication that just had a peculiar side effect and has absolutely nothing to do with fish and spawning, rather blood flow. Neither has anything to do with your problem, either. Coffee will lower your pH, but so will cheaper alternatives. Your water is your problem from what you wrote. If you want to breed discus, an R/O unit, not a gimmick, is your solution.

Hmm buzz the fish up on nicotine and pollute the tank with some organics .....:(;):rolleyes2: Then we'll do a 90% water change each day

Drink the coffee yourself and give the fish a water change
