Hi all,

I'm currently in dire need of getting more oncologists' opinion for my sister's biopsy/Pet + CT scan results as she has a very rare case. If you are one I would be blessed to be able to talk with you at the time of your convenience. Please contact me by email/phone or I can contact you if preferred.

Thank you so much in advance,
Kenny

Hi Kenny, sorry to hear there is a problem but I know of places like the Cleveland Clinic that offer second opinions for a small fee and the patient data sent to them. In New York Sloan Kettering in Manhattan has a similar service, check here: http://www.mskcc.org/prg/prg/diagnoses_and_procedures/SECO-000-000.cfm
That link will let you look at the service by diagnosis, doctors and phone numbers included. It is usually best to look up the condition and find the facility that specializes in it, Good luck.

i hope you find a second opinion.
heres the definition of oncologist..i have no experience with any of this..but the definition says they have to liason with a pathologist who studies tumors .so ask them if they are?
The oncologist often coordinates the multidisciplinary care of cancer patients, which may involve physiotherapy, counselling, clinical genetics, to name but a few. On the other hand, the oncologist often has to liaise with pathologists on the exact biological nature of the tumor that is being treated.

Francis, Mark, April, Harriet;

THANK YOU all so much for the advice, blessings and info. We did get a second opinion(third if needed) last week and this second oncologist gave us quite a different perspective of the cancer and thus different treatment approach. In a few days we are hopeful that a final diagnosis will be available to us. I myself have been trying hard to find more info for my sister's particular tumor type on other cancer forums for the last couple weeks, as whatever she's dealing with she, or anyone else deserves the best treatment possible.

Thanks friends, your input means a lot to me.

Thanks Francis and Mark for your help and kind blessings, my friends.

We were finally able to get a final diagnosis 2 days ago and now we'll start her full treatment in about a week(radiation + chemo). It will still be a long battle but I told my sister not to worry about anything that's out of her control. I assured her that as long as I'm breathing I will take good care of her whatever the outcome. I need her to have the best possible mindset going into receiving these very difficult treatments.

Thanks friends,
Kenny

Kenny: have you looked into getting some opinions from the specialists at the Dana Farber Cancer institute here in Boston? They are the best in the world, not just the US, and they specialize in rare and the unusual types of tumors and their treatments. The best of luck and wishes to you and your sister! mike
