What should I expect to see size wise of 2 inch discus grown in a 55 gallon growing tank that are cared for properly.

5 feedings a day and daily water change.

2 inch Discus are how old?

3 inches is how old

4 inches is how old

5 inches and so on until full grown
Also how long do discus live?

I understand there are many variables to these questions so I'm just looking for a rough guide.

Thanks

depends how many... the size will be alot smaller for 45discus than for 10.

Well of course. That is why I said average with proper care.
5-8 fish in 55 gal.
You don't put 40 fish in 55 gal, that would not be proper care.

I beleive i've read that the avg rate is one inch a month for the first few months, After that it slows down. But im not 100% sure its been discussed here before look around you can probably find the post.

That's a good rule of thumb for very well cared for and well fed discus. I have had a few batches that would never grow that fast no matter how well they were cared for. They were healthy and ate like pigs, just weren't fast growers. It wasn't in their genes.

It all depends on 2 things:
1. Water - Maintaining water quality - filteration; water changes
2. Nutrition - Food that you give them
As far as the size is concerned any avg stats will not be enough as no 2 discus in any given scenario will grow the same. I started of 12 juvies and was able to get an inch a month growth on some and half an inch a month on few. I also have 2 that half inch in 2 months.. so there is no rule there is no avg.. as long as you maintain water quality and provide quality food you will see results in 12 months. You can over kill with monthly scale but then you are not enjoying the hobby.

I usually find my fish grow at about 5mm a week until they abot 3.5-4" then it slows down.
