I have seen countless stunning planted tank pictures.

I am just wondering does anyone have any cool artificial planted or plantless tank set ups out there?

I'm just looking for ideas, and hoping people have some cool tanks to show off! :D

Here is a couple of shots of my recently set-up non-discus tank. It is a 46 gallon bow front. All the plants are artificial. The plants and driftwood are from Big Al's.

I kept it sparcely planted to allow room for some of my bigger fish to swim.

Not sure exactly if this is what you are looking for but...this is my African tank. No plants here. ;)

Oh and BTW, the plants, except in their planted tank section, are artificial. The reason they look so good is that they are not from the pet store. Talked to the guy from ADG while I was setting up mine. They use professional artificial grasses (mostly) and plants that you find in arts and craft stores, although I think they order theirs special from somewhere. Expensive, but they look great. You have to be careful to find ones that don't have exposed wire or that have paint, etc. that will foul the water. Its what I use in my tank. It took a little trial and error (and some damp store returns:D), but found some that works great and looks really nice.

I'll snap a quick photo of mine...

Here are updated photos. Plants look a bit better / more natural in person.

Someday I'll switch to live plants, but with 4 kids and a heavy travel schedule, artificial and a lot of automation is the name of the game...

Harris that is a great looking tank, just the kind of inspiration I was looking for.

Thanks for the info about the plants from the crafts stores, I will have to go check out Michaels this weekend.

Did you just pick up your rocks from a gravel yard?

Thanks again.

Thanks again for the nice comments. And yeah, got the rocks at a landscape place. That boulder in the back was almost to heavy for me to lift, but the bigness of the rocks and wood really is pretty cool in person (its a 7 foot tank).

Oh, great place for driftwood -- http://stores.ebay.com/SANDYS-HOUSE-OF-DRIFTWOOD-AND-MORE

Good luck!

I think your tank is lovely! It just goes to show that using artificial stuff doesn't have to look cheap and nasty.

Right. Real wood. Real rocks. Pool filter sand. Fake plants from craft store. And it's a 200 gal that I converted from a reef tank.

I have heard of people using tile on the bottom of their tanks ~ once it is silconed in, can it ever be taken out?....or is this a forever thing?

I can't figure out if I like it or not! lol! Do you have a whole tank shot you could share?
