hi all
i recently moved one of my fish out of my 75gl (the old man)
i call him that cause hes over 8 years old
there are two pairs spawing in the 75 and "the old man" keeps disturbing them, alot
so when i saw torn fins on the spawning pairs
i immediatly transfered him to a 55 gl community tank
the community has 2 angels some tetras, kribs and some algea control fellas
he's huge and could easily eat any tetra or krib in the tank, but luckly no fatalities
so above his eye are three white spots that look pretty big
ill be doing 3 50% water changes today to help
please help "the old man"

That almost looks like physical damage....did he get beat up in the move?

maybe a little. he barely fit in the net and it took 3 tries to get him in the net
this is day 2 in the commun tank and in day one i didnt notice anything out of the ordinary.
do you think it will get worse before it gets better

If it is just physical damage from the move then the white film is new tissue and it'll get beter....if there is any reddness or fuzzy tufts then thats anohter story

:shocked::shocked::huh: I'm not sure what in the hell that is but the water needs some kind if fungal med in it would be my best guess. Then I would catch the fish and while holding it in your hand or down on a wet towel, swab the spot with iodine or a PP paste on a Q-tip....trying very hard not to get any in the eyes or gills.

Don't be too gentle doing this, You want to clear away any dead tissue with the Q-tip while you're doing this.

you think it could be a serious case of body flukes?

Graham
08-26-2008, 06:55 PM
That is not body flukes what so ever..it fungal or maybe bacterial but it's not flukes..........swab the spots and threat the water

PS, what did you add the formalin for? Formalin by itself is pretty useless with Malachite Green it would help (maybe) this problem

How about some updated pics.....The shedding of the mucus is probably from a parasite...........Use the two meds together following dosing instructions on the bottles. Using a combo like Quick Cure would be better but this should help.

well i went to walmart yesterday and they had no iodine
burning man started so they raided all the meds.
the employees said to check later.

A couple of better pics.............this maybe a primary Columnaris bacterial infection, with some secondary ''stuff '' going on.

I'd still use the iodine swab on the white infected area and then use an antibiotic in the QT water. Furan, Oxytetracycline, Marcyn Two, Tetracycline should work.......

This one is going to be a learning experience.......

needless to say water has to be prefect

Good luck

its too late
my guess is his health was compromised his age
and with the move to the community tank stessed him so much his immune system went down, then the move to the q tank made it worse.

thank you so much Graham for all your help and everyone here for all your
support.

ever since ive joined this forum ive never lost a discus, since id spend hours
reading all the do's and dont's and the investment i put into my pets.
my wife thought i was a little to obbsesive till i broke it down to her my hobby and their needs to stay healthy.
i kinda feel like i failed.
but you live n learn

now im scared my community tank is carrying what ever hit my discus

It's not like a parasite, fungal spores and bacteria are in the air and water anyway. They just need a place to invade
