I have two discus that stopped eating and the one is sitting near the top and the other near the bottom. I treated with metro with no improvement. Today the gill is really swollen here are some pics:

How long have you had these two discus? Did you quarantine them? Did you add any other fish in recently? You might want to move the affected discus into a hospital tank and treat them there.

Metronidazol doesn't do anything for gill problems, but if they've stopped eating, metro can help with hexamita flagellates, if that's what they have.

The gills could be open from higher nitrate levels or maybe flukes (trematodes). That can be treated with praziquantel.

Maybe you could provide some background info by answering the questions on the form here.

Problem

1. Please explain the problems with your fish/when and how they started:

These two stopped eating bout a week ago now the gill looks like pics above





2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/ white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds):

Not eating one sits at top and one sits at bottom of tank






3. What medications/ treatments that you have already tried and results. Include dosages and duration of treatment.

Tank is a planted tank I change the water 50% 3 times a week

- temp _____Normally sits at 84-86 deg but I bumped it up to 88-89

- nitrite reading ____0

- nitrate reading ____5

- well water ____NO

- municipal water ____

How about a few head on pics and a side pic.

Also Clout is a pretty heavy duty med but only for some things...even it can cause a problem by itself
