I'm trying to make my bare bottom tank look as nice as I can. I was just wondering if anyone who has a nicely decorated BB tank could put up some pics for me? I'm just trying to get some ideas.

thanks!

Mine is pure bare, but i know a few people use glass bowls and put plants in the bowls in the bare tank. So you still have a bare tank, with plants.

I took 2 of my amazon swords, And i tied them with fishing string to a rock. Gives the little guys a feeling of cover and its easy to clean, Just pull the plants out and siphon away.

i've seen bb tanks with 'branches' coming into the water to look like trees are above.

Not much to a bare bottom tank. One picture is this case is not nearly worth a 1000 words.
You should pot Amazon Swords in FloraBase or similar special plant substrate, add whatever wood you like and maybe fasten some Anubia barteri to it. The later is the best way to go if you do not want any pots.

That's an awsome tank...what you talking about! I love the idea of potted amazons in a discus tank. I think j Wattley also stated that one of the most beautiful tank he ever saw was a barebottom with potted plants. I used to have my amazon potted in terra cotta pots. But because I needed to maximize tank space, I took all the plants and pots out and made more room for the fish. If i had a bigger show tank, I definitely would go with the pots. mike

Wow, very nice white worm. What is that on the bottom? Or is that just the top of the stand?

I currently only have a 55g but would like to upgrade to a 90 or so since I have 7 Discus.

I painted the bottom underneath the tank with some sand-colored texture paint.

I may have to copy that idea for the next tank. Where did you buy the paint? And is that a 72g bowfront? That's what I'd like to get for my Discus. And Alan, how many Discus do you have in there? They really look good!

Good eye...It is a 72g Bow. I got the spray paint from Walmart.

Sheila
in the pic there was 11
but now only 10
i breaking the number one rule which is one discus per ten gallons
but i change large volumes of water religiously

and right now i have three pairs causing havoc in my tank

if i could find someone to buy some fish off me i would definatly make this tank planted

Well both of your Discus look incredible! I only have a 55g with 7 discus but am looking at upgrading. And I think I will be looking into that paint as well!
