Welcome to the forum, Gary.
When you say your water is very hard, what is the measured hardness?
Many feel their water is very hard but when they provide us with the actual measure, I often find their water is well within the range discus do quite well in.
Very soft water is desirable for wild discus but the modern Domestic strains have become well adapted to a very wide range of conditions.
5 inches(in diameter) is on the low side of what is normal for discus but not a runt by any means. If these are your first discus you have probably become much more knowledgeable about their care with your experience, any future Discus you grow may well grow faster and larger than these. Discus continue to grow all their lives; much slower of course with time, but your fish may still eventually reach six inches, given another year.

Hi Gary,

I'm also a Filipino but residing now here in Vancouver Canada. Glad to hear that discus keeping is now getting popular way back home. I actually go to PDS (Philippine Discus Society) website from time to time.

Welcome to the "Sap-sap" (flat fish) forum. :D

It is intersting to have discus have babies in hard water. Did the eggs have a good hatch rate?
