I have a t-12 light fixture,can I use t-8 or t-10 bulbs in it or do I need to change the ballast?:confused:

If it's a normal output ballast, then you can use T8 or T10. In those cases, the number following the T is the diameter based on T8 being 1" in diameter (so T10 is 1.25" in diameter and a T12 is 1.5" in diameter).
Some of the sockets or endcaps are designed specifically for T12 lights and you'll need to insert an adapter for the smaller sized lamps.

Thankx Walter.Thats what I was hoping,seems they are phasing out t12s.

It is not likely that your t12 fixture is ballasted with a ballast that will light t8 lamps. It is more likely a magnetic ballast. If you can get to the ballast you should be able to find a listing of number and type of lamps on the label. (ie. 2-F40T12 or 2-F32T8). It is really a simple thing to change this type of ballast to an electronic type. A wiring diagram is found on the ballast label. They are found at most lumber yards today and should cost less than $20.
