Is it easier to raise 3" or 3.5" inch discus? Or does the .5 not really make a difference. Thanks in advance!

The very small ones (1") are said to have a higher death rate. Mine were all 2 to 2.5" . Most of them grew well but I did have a couple that didn't grow much. I had one that was a picky eater. It grew very little and died after a year or so. Clean water and enough good food and they will grow fast.

Genetics does play a role in their growth. Some grow out great and some not much at all if you start with the little ones. 3.5 in is a very good size to grow out. The runts and inferior misshaped ones should have been weeded out by then.

Not a lot of difference between 3 and 3.5inch. Like Don said getting them at like 1 inch can be a little harder and it's harder to tell if they are going to be runts and adult colors.

Ive purchased 3-4 inch discus from my lfs, And they never really got very big, I recently purchased 5 1" discus and they have taken off, Th ey must be 2.5 inches now, I change 50 % of their water daily and feed alot of beefheart. Its all in how they are raised, Good water and quality food. I'd rather raise my discus from now on, I know they have been cared for with alot of love and attention.

At what size are discus considered to be adult?

10-12 months old I believe. Size isn't always a good measure of age as runts can be small but actually adult fish.
