View Full Version : Can Males Turn Infertile?

I have two males which have bred before. Recently, each time there is not a single egg fertilized. Did the males turn infertile? or is there something else wrong?

Water paramenters are PH = 8.2 Hardness : 70-100ppm

Meanwhile, a similar male just successfully fertilized about 120 eggs.

The age of the males is less than 2 years old.

Any feedback is appreciated. Is it something in the water, or the male?

Your males are probably not infertile. Males tend not to fertilze every time a female spawns,
some males just have a better track record then others.

Interesting. However, each of them has missed about the last 3 times each.

You can try giving the infertile male a rest period and place a good fertile male in with
the spawning female(s) since they are still in their spawning cycle.

I have had males that would do the entire dance with the females, then when it came time to spawn, they would either watch the female lay without helping or simply be indifferent to the entire proceedings. Good males are a treasure. If you have a good one - keep him.
