Do you use Salt in your Discus water and if so what kind of salt and at what dosage?
I know about using epson salt for bloaters but what else do you use salt for.
I hear it helps the slim coat but didn't know if it was good in a discus tank as a normal additive or only when you have problems.

Hi Sakt should not be used unless there is a medical problem where itr helps with osmoregulation, or a nitrite problem. There are enough salts narurally occuring in water for for our fish.
Salt doesn't help a mucus layer. It irritates it/the glands that produce it, forcing them to produce more...not a good thing on a regular basis.
Whe salt is used, any salt that doesn't contain the anti-caking agest YPS is fine to use, including iodized table salt. One tablespoon per ten gallons up to 1 teaspoon per gallon (0.1%) is fine for nitrite protection.
For most fish going up to 3 teaspoons (0.3%)per gallon will help clear some parasites
