One of my discus is developing black spots. I know i know you're thinking peppering, but i doubt it. This is a red scribblit from Hans which to the best of my knowledge means no pigeon blood. The fish is around 3.5 inches long I've had it since sept 6th.

Tank stats:
55 gallon
PH 7.5
bare bottom (with a few potted plants)
daily 25-30% water change with floor vac
temp 84ish

Nothing other then water, food, and prazi pro has been added to this tank since I got these fish. The emperor tetras in the picture were there for months before the discus cycling the tank. This fish does not always display his bars but always seems to when the have the camera. When his bars fade the black spots stay. Nearly all of them are on the front half of his body. They are NOT raised like pimples. I've noticed some have disappeared while others have appeared. This fish is low on the pecking order but more then holds his own during feeding time. I haven't noticed any other behavior that would lead me to believe this fish is sick. I included a link to a larger version of the 2nd picture, you can see the spots better there.

Thanks for the replies. I suspected this wasn't a disease. Good to hear a couple other people say it's something else. Spots are still appearing and fading, i can't say i've noticed any real wounds on him though. And his behavior is still fine.

Thanks,

My red melon has peppering but also a few freckles that look different from the peppering and are located right in the body near the tail while the peppering is concentrated around the edges of his fins. I like them, I think they're nice. They don't fade, like yours, though.
