I plan on pulling my fry ( unless it's a hugh spawn ) and putting them in a 25 gal tank with a sponge for a few weeks then into my 75 gal

I'm going to have 2 sponge filters in my 75 gal fry grow out tank but was planing on putting a Aqua Clear 110 hang on filter on the back. For almost the same money, I could put 2 70's on it and that got me thinking.
Just wondering what others think about it. Would you pick the 110 or use 2 70's.

If one 70 ever failed you have a backup.

I use the 110 on my 75gal and it does a good job with water movement on one side of the tank. Having 2 smaller AQ may circulate the tank more but you also have to factor the cost of having to get 2 prefilter versus one. I have the 70 on my 40gal tank and it does a pretty good job. My only issue with it is the Oceanic tank has a wider lip on the top and the AC70 doesn't fit.

I like having 2 (or more) filters . If you clean one and disturb the bacteria the other is still working normal and it is unlikely that both will brake at the same time. Don T.

i agree with Don....i like having two filters for the reasons of being able to clean one and not disturb the other one .... but the AC 110 would do the Job on its own .

one thing i have noticed ....i went to petco last night just looking around and seen they had AC110 fpr $88.00 . but i could not find any replacement sponges, or bio media .for that size ....i dont know if they dont stock a lot of them... but i was able to find two shelvs filled with replacements for the 20, 30's 50' and 70's but no 110's

Here is something you guys might not know about.

At Pet Smart, not Pet Co, you can take any mail order catalog to the store and they will match the price for the exact same item.
Store policy, ask for the manager.

Unfortunately pet smart & pet co don't carry the 110 size aquaclear. They stop at the 70.
I'm taking my dr foster & smith up and getting 2 70's

petsmart $54
Doc fos $47

Well so much for pet smart matching prices.
While I did this twice in the last 2 weeks without a problem, the manager today said thy no longer match any prices except on their own web site.
Sorry for that but they were doing it.
