Hello, I'm new to this site and this is my first post so aside from saying Hi to all i have a question. I'm gearing up to get back into Discus and I want to stock a 90 gallon barebottom tank with around 7-9 Eruptions. No other tank mates and the tank is already established. Does anyone on here keep this particular strain? How hardy are they etc. ? I was thinking of using 1/2 RO water and 1/2 tap since Denver tap water runs at around 7.5. I'll probably have to get relatively small Eruptions being that they are very expensive. If anyone knows where I can pick up a group that would be awesome too. Thanks

Try Kenny(Simply Discus Sponsor) and highly recommended for his quality fish.
He usually has Penang Eruptions in his stocks.

I would say Kenny as well!I got two leopard eruptions from him and two checkerboard turks.Very nice fish super healthy and he is great to deal with. The leopards pair up and she laid eggs after 2 weeks in my tank.

Wow! Great FAST replys! I love it. Thank you guys. I will difinetly get in touch with Kenny when I get ready to stock. I have some things to iron out first such as RO and whatnot. I think i'm going to enjoy this site. Feels kind of strange right now because i don't actually have any Discus to talk about but that will change soon enough. I used to keep them a few years back but had a bad experience with them thats why this time around I'm going with 1/2 RO water for sure.

Do you age your water or just go straight from the tap into your tanks? Just curious. I was talking to a breeder a few months back and he basically told me that if i wanted to have a successful tank I should go with at least 1/2 RO water especially with the discus coming out of Maylasia which are the 1's that i want. I haven't gone out and spent a bunch of money on a RO system yet so I'll just wait it out.

My fish are also from Maylasia and I have had no problems.i treat the water with prime thats it.Breeding and raising the fry may be a different story. But my fish look great eat great and seem healthy and happpy in 7.3 water.I am thinking of ageing the water a little but thats it.I believe most of Kenny fish are from Maylasia unless there one he bred in cali.

Hi Mike, good to see yet another Coloradian on here. I'm living in Greeley right now and sounds like we have pretty similar water. I personally don't think you'll need R/O, save your money for discus! I age my water 24 hours and its fine. I think that you are getting sound advice to order from Kenny, a good stock of discus is the most important part of keeping them.

Don't do anything. Use straight tap water unless it is well water.

My fish are in 8.2 Indiana rock water.
