Hi all, anybody feed mealworms to their Discus? I was in the LFS and saw them for sale, cheap live food. Would they ok for Discus, assuming you could get them to eat them!
Just curious.

Thanks for the info, sounds like you could feed mealworms. The crunchy shell thing I don't like, I'll probably pass on trying these critters as food unless I mix a few into a beefheart food recipe.
Thanks again

Hi,
Meal worms are fine as a treat...They have a high amount of fat in them and a poor amount of calcium but as a treat they are very good... I usually have a culture going... If you have a culture keep it at room temp and you'll see that at any given time a few in the culture will have just shed...when they do they are soft...these will have a white look to them verses the hard shelled yellowish ones.. Feed the newly shed ones.......The discus will also take the hard ones....but generally these ones need to be very small for them to do...otherwise they'll just spit them out.

I've been using them for years as a treat.

Cool, thanks! I may pick some up today while I'm running around.
