I have had these discus for a long time but never got the chance to photograph them. Sorry for the poor photography but could someone even tell me how they take pics as in with or without flash and with the lights on or off and with background lights or something and also what setting do you keeping on your camera as in macro and all that. Also I would like to receive comments from experienced people over here on my discus and tank.

Hey Prash,

Best pics I take are with the flash off, tank lights on.

Your discus are stunted, very...especially if you've had them a long time. You can check the eye to body ratio.

For a group that size I would have went with a BB tank, mad feedings and big WCs.

Since you have had them a long time, they have gone outside their prime growth period.

The tank was bare bottom uptil 4 days back. Water was changed everyday 50% uptil then. But because of lack of time and because I cant change water that often and also wanted to make my tank look good I added gravel plants and the bridge. Earlier feeding was at 6 times a day with a special BH mix and tetra bits and frozen blood worms. Now that I have changed it feeding is thrice everyday and WC will be done every 3-4 days. I dont think all of them are stunted but my checkerboard surely is stunted. The red melon and red marlboro has been with me for 2 months and were about 45 days old when I bought them so a size of 3 inches that I have achieved is decent. The blue diamond is also about the same age but a bit smaller. The checkerboard was purchased when about 1 month old and has been with me for 2 months and yet not growing so that maybe stunted. The unknown one was bought in a group of 13 babies hardly 15 days old and is currently of a total age of about 3 months and is at about 1.5-2 inches which I again dont think is stunted. But I know with the current setup, food routine and water changes all of them might become stunted. But just to know even if this schedule is followed how big will they grow maximum ?

I'm going for a WAG of about 4 inches TL. Young fish do sometimes have a big eye but I can see stunted fish in your group. The only way to overcome this if you really want to, is to knock out bigger WCs everyday and feed more than 6 times a day. IME

That sticky will explain about eye to head ratio. Ratio close to 3 is not good, and I see most of your fish (except for the melons) have it. I think you'll have most of growth potential from your melons if you do as Eddie suggests.

I would not be able to change the amount of WCs so will keep it at once in 3 days but a major change. Also I know that the melon and marlboro red is quite fit and to some extent the baby and blue diamond as well. My only concern is the checkerboard. It has the biggest of eyes which actually means it wont grow much now. I expect my melon to reach atleast 5 inches and the marlboro somewhere around 4.5 inches. Rest of the fishes not many expectations. But my tank atleast looks better than the barebottom now and the discus even look better and happier. I would like them to reach a good size because I have put in alot of time and would have continued to do so but because of time constraints and family getting irritated with daily water changes and an ugly tank had to change the whole thing. Lets hope for the best !
