My friends is living town and he left me a fluval 405. I'm wondering if I could use it on my tank? Im currently running 2 filters already. 1 AC110 and the Rena XP4 with the uv on it. Is it Ok to add the Fluval 405? In my 90 gallon with 11 discus, with some loaches and sterbais.

Should be a plus to your set-up. The one thing that I would be concerned about is any cross contamination. You never know what is lurking in the 405 that will love to thrive in your tank. ;)

there were no media that came with it. I would definetely clean it very well before I even use it.

I myself would have to run a diluted water/bleach solution through all the tubing or get new tubes. Those tubes are a playground for anything. ;)

I'd bleach the whole thing, up one side and down the other. Every nook and cranny would be bleached.

I don't know if this is the best advice, but if you removed all of the media, and left everything else out to dry completely for a few weeks, I would think that everything would die. And if anything lived, without a host for weeks, anything that remained would die.

Definitely bleach it...letting air dry for a few weeks will not kill any of the nasties ...
