What type of Discus is this

Some type of pigeon blood. Pick a name really, Marlboro Red type. Definently a form of pigeon blood though.

when we bought her they told us she was a lemon yellow, now i dont know much about types but i know she is not a lemon yellow

It's a Marlboro Red (pigeon based). I have two of them that look pretty much like yours. They seem to pepper up more in tanks that are not bare bottom; my tank is planted.

Why do people have prefer no gravel bottoms, is there some reason experienced discus owners do not like gravel. what is the reason. please tell me if you know.

Easier to keep the tank clean and keeps the water quality pristine. You can have gravel but it's just easier to do without. Alot easier to maintain a BB tank. Also, gravel is a breeding ground for baddies (parasites, bacteria).

i just got rid of gravel in my display tank because it truly a PITA to keep clean. now that's BB it's much easier to siphon out the mess.

A thin layer of silica pool filter sand is pretty easy to keep clean. Granted BB is easier, but for my display tanks, I just can't say I'm satisfied with BB. Just my opinion.

I see what you are saying. bb will be easier but the other looks so much more natural. Like the fish are in their own little world
