Hi all. I will more than likely be purchasing 4" fish and 4 at a time. What size tank would you use to quarantine for the 6 weeks. After the 6 weeks of being quarantined they will be moved to my 125 tank. I plan on stocking up to 10 to 12 so I will have to buy in stages. Thanks for the help.

A 29 or 20 gallon but more a 29 is what I would choose. It's alot easier to maintain water quality and it's not too big.

I like to use 30's for quaratine and have two 20 high's for hospital tanks then move to 55's. If getting six at a time I move all 6 into 55. I also use seperate equipment for each tank or tank's until I feal sure on the new fishes,

For your purposes, a 29 or 30 gal would be my suggestion.

Does anybody here treat the fish with medicine, etc. while in quarantine? Is there a best practice procedure? I've read many posts and article where some people treat as precausion and others don't. I guess it's personal preference, but probably only when you're experienced you can make that decision. I'm looking for a best practice guide to discus quarantine for beginners.

Laure,

You'll find many different ways of QTing fish. I've gotten into the routine of just monitoring the fish for 6 weeks. If anything, I'll hit'em with a round of Formalin and Malachite Green mixture. I used to do this always as a preventive but don't feel it's always necessary.

Preventative treatment can be a controversial subject on the forum, but yes, I treat new fish with levamisole & prazi.

I know you have plenty of answers on QT size, but for what it's worth, mine is 100L, or 26G.

Well its looks like min. is 20, so thinking about it, I may get a couple of 20's and use them. I have a 10 gal. already for hosp. and after I'am all done quaranting all fish I can clean them and use for water storage and hopefully one day breeder tanks. Thanks for the help.
