My goldens have been in their new home since Saturday and have been shaking up a storm. That's ALL I see when I look over.. lol.. They can't seem to make up their mind where they want to lay their eggs... on this branch... no.. wait a minute, how about that branch? WAIT, back over on that one... hmm... and it seems the male might have some competition. Another one (which I'm assuming is male) keep shaking (alone) almost seemly to get her attention and has been pecking and 'pretending' to be cleaning a branch as well... I told my daughter what they were doing and now every time she looks over and sees them shaking she just rolls her eyes and says 'Geesh!'... lol.... :p

How long does it take them to make up their mind usually, or is there something that they're waiting for?

Hey Renee,

Yes, watching all of this can be very exhausting when you have a new pair. They could take a couple of weeks! When you least expect it, they'll spawn. Have you given them a cone or piece of slate to use as a apwning surface? I like to use slate tiles cut in half. You can get them from home depot for about $1.50. Just lean them up on the side of the tank and they'll pick one to spawn on. I like to put one on each side so they have options, especially in a community tank.

Hope you have a spawn soon!

You just never know, they can take awhile, or it can be pretty quick. My first pair shook for about 4 days and then picked the internal UV sterilizer that was in the tank as their site. After spawing for months on end, every 7 days like clockwork, that pair never spawed again once I removed that UV, either.

That's weird that they loved the UV so much! I guess every thing in nature has it's preferences. LOL! It is true that they seem to be on a weekly schedule.

Things are getting pretty hairy in there! :p The female is doing a 'egg-laying' gesture on the back of the glass and it seems as if everyone has swarmed back there and is (fighting over her??) Tensions seem to to be high and I've spotted her tube dropped and another male's tube dropped (that isn't her beau)..

Is it possible with her going through this behavior that others are 'getting in the mood' or that she's the only female in there and all of the males are fighting over her? lol.... ;)

Must be something in the water......
