Just wondering how often does discus breed? and what causes them to eat up their own eggs?

Hi...two generalized questions that do not have a black and white answer. Each pair is different. Depending on age, they can spawn every week...I have had some spawn sooner than that, then of course pairs who do it a lot less. What makes them eat their eggs? That's the big question I (we) wish we knew the reasons why, as ALL pairs can do this, even older "seasoned" pairs who have raised sucessful spawns in the past...Bill

Often times fish eat their eggs because they feel threatened or in danger, the eggs have all gone bad or infertile, or they are new parents and haven't gotten the breeding thing down pat yet. That is usually why they do that. As for spawning I wouldn't know lol.
