Sponge filter question

I have a 75 gallon with 6 -5" discus. I have a lrge hob filtration that I want to remove. I put two hydro V sponges in two weeks ago. Question: How long before the sponge filters are seeded enough to take out my established hob filter?

I would give them about three weeks. You might still get a spike when you turn off your HOB untill the sponges have time to grow big enough. It shouldn't last long.

I would keep the HB filter with the sponge filters... I have two HB filters with two hydro 5's on my 90 gl. Plenty of bacteria for huge water changes and keep tank steady with perameters... In case you have to treat whole tank, plus good water movement... Also in case you need charcoal to remove meds or start a new tank with their sponges. I have double sponges plus noodles in HB's..
