Here you go everyone. I couldn't hold a wheel barrel up next to him while taking the picture for a reference but this guy is as tall as a breeding cone. MONSTER!!! $1000 dollars they want for this guy.

Beutiful fish !! and is HUGE !! What some people don't understand is that its the individual fish, not the whole strain that grows huge.. Those are probably his siblings in the tank with him... Thanks for sharing !! David T

Your welcome David, he is big. All the others are going for $150.00 a piece. There is another quite large one in the tank that I wouldn't mind having but it's too large for my boys right now.

I wouldn't even know what to do with a Discus that big. Biggest I have seen in person.

NICE!!!! I dont care for the spotted fish, but this one is truly one of a kind! It is Ginormous! Ask them if they would bargain with you, and get him for $500. Tell them that otherwise, the fish will only sit there taking up space. I noticed on the third or fourth picture, the fish behind the giant is actually kind of stunted, with huge eyes. Goes to show there is such a variation in discus too.

LMAO Renee

I would bet that one is a male. That fish is so big it may not even breed. Not a bad fish selection for a hardware store either. Now Im wondering what the quaility of the LFS is much less a true breeder.

Thanks for the picture Eddie. That is a really great fish. Ive never actually seen a $1,000 hardware store discus before. I dont usually go for that strain but I would like to have a huge one like that in my tank. I would be worried it might eat one of my discus for lunch.

I know! I think the reason they brought these guys in is because I bought so many initially from there. All my fish came from the hardware store! After I got my fix and then ordered some from Forrest, they go a ahead and set the bar up higher bringing in a few big dawgs. It is a nice fish but I could not even handle that thing. I need some juvies to grow out, not a beefneck. He does look nice though. LOL

Eddie. Very nice fish.

Kacey in Seattle had one that big. I saw it with my own eyes many times.

What is funny about his fish and the one you are showing is there is a myth out there those types of fish can't get that big.

When that thread started about the biggest fish I pm Kacey to post it. Unfortunately the fish no longer is around.

Give Kacey a few more years my bet is he will have another one.

That is one nice and big looking fish. However, no myths are busted as no physical proof of 8" SL is provided. :D

At least you had a pic of a big fish. Thanks for sharing! tell the shop owner 'sooner or later it will get sick and be worth nothing' lol. April - you need to get a pic of your SS up, or did i miss it? who was the photographer (sorry i forget his name) at your shop in Jan. he took lots of pics.

Its awesome eddie.thanx4 sharing.I hope I can see these strains in person someday.its priceless.one thing,do these huge character inheritable if the offsprings are provided good care?or just somatic?another question is that, can any strain go as big as that?or it is restricted to some particular kinds?

Eddie

Oh, it died in the tanks. They kept him for sale at 1000 dollars and nobody even looked at it for that price. Its too bad, he was nice.

ouch, poor monster (as in big). I'm sure the LFS regret placing such an unrealistic price tag on that discus; bad investment.

Just degraded daily in the tank. Every few weeks I'd stop by and see it looking worse and worse until it was just gone. Lost all color, dark and clamped fins, hiding in the corner, painful to see really.

this just plain sucks!!! and sadly is the attitude most lfs I have encountered will take. about a year ago I went in a pretty nice little new lfs. they had 200 watt heaters on sale for $45 each when I asked them why was the price so high they replied If we cant get that much for it. it can sit there! and sit there it did untill they cleaned all the shelves when they closed down!! it took about 9 mos.

might be an optical illusion :) 6 inch would b perfect
