Happy Easter Everyone, please see the before and after pictures. when i bought this albino red melon a few months ago it had a nice red color on it's body but a few months later it turned into an pale orange color. the redness has completely gone. the discus is healthy and there is red color enhancer added to their food. my query is i thought the red color enhancer in the diet would help to maintain the redness but it does not work. anyone has any idea what cause the lost of redness and the fish becomes orange color only instead? thank you.

Hi Ivo,

Long time no hear from you....perhaps your dosage of Naturose is not enough....what kind of red enhancer you are adding to your food:confused:....perhaps adding some pure spirulina powder & prawns to their diets could help too.

Cheers
Francis:)

hi francis, i added carophyll pink (sorry wrong spelling), and i also added spirulina, prawns, etc in their diet. i begin to think that it's redness is not natural and hence i cannot maintain it's redness. after trying for couple of months to regain it's red and failed, i am giving up on it now.

...mine has done that too ivo.....she's been like it for months....no other signs of illness...just keeping an eye on it also...I think it has to do with whatever they were raised on....

Hi rox, I think u r spot on. All my other red discus have kept their redness n got more red as they grow except this albino red melon, so it can't be because of the food I feed it. May be it was given some other stuff to make it looked so red to make a sale. Of course this is only my own thoery.

Hi Eddie,

I have a whole jar of Sera Red...better finish it first....almost finish the ON Prime Reef and gonna mix with the beefheart mixture next week.

Perhaps these guys are males so no full red in their bodies...my wild guess again.

Nice Albinos Francis, maybe the mix I mentioned to someone for yellow but just omit the lutein supplement.

Happy Easter, friend Roger

Firstly, I wanted to say that if only what you wanted was an orange fish, you should be very happy with him. He still looks a beautiful discus. Nice, fat & obviously healthy & doing well in your care.

..... But ..... I remember seeing these fish in your tank, when I bought my wild browns from you last year. All so gorgeous. All so red. (Me so jealous of them).

I glad to hear that some of your others have kept their redness.

I think I agree with your theory. If this fish naturally had it in him to be red, your colour enhanced feeding should have maintained that red. Since he has lost his redness, it supports your theory that maybe this fish was given some other stuff to make it look so red. I know little about these things, but this suggestion does make sense to me.

Would love to see some pictures of the ones that kept their red colour, when you have to time.
