That's a couple more than most people suggest. A good rule of thumb is 1 for every 10 gallons.

Good luck and let us know how it goes with some pics;)

You might could get away with 12 in that tank. It would most likely need to be a BB and do very heavy water changes. As far as breeding them I would think that they will need there own tank but I'm not the one to answer any question about that. Haven't made it that far yet.

10 - 12 fish would be fine...just keep on top of your water quality.

If you intend to breed keep in mind that the different varieties will interbreed. This may make the young fish less valuable.
IMO; There is no particular breed of discus that is "for a begginer". Good quality discus from a quality source will be similar in hardyness. Discus from the wild are an exception. They require a little more knowledge and experience. Pick quality fish that you like the color of.
There is much debate abought bare bottom (BB) and gravel/sand. I have gravel/sand in my tanks but that is just my preference. Bare bottom is easier to keep clean. Either way clean water is the secret. This is acomplished mostly by water changes. (WC) There is also a variety of opinions abought how often and how much water to change.
Discus are not hard to keep but they do reqire more work than most other tropicals. Read alot and ask questions before buying . Don T.

I agree with Dan but I do like to overstock my tanks. I keep the water pristine with daily 130% WCs. ;)
