Hey All, I know this has been documented in Simply's article Heckel Haircut by Al but just to show how it worked for me. I used directions followed in Andrew Soh's book. This Spotted fish had a slit in the tail fin that you can see in the first picture. It would not mend together, no matter what. I thought this slit would be there forever so I decided to cut the fin, just before the slit and the tail grew back fully without the slit. Looks good now and will look like it was never cut with time.

Interesting. So you only cut off some of the end of it?

Eddie,

How long did it take to grow back. Thanks for the picture. I assume it works on the fin as well? I have a few BD that my 2 amazon puffer did a number on.

Wow Eddie - that's great!

How did you maintain the fish position while you were cutting, and what did you use to cut?

Is it supposed to be painful for the fish?

Hi Eddie

I have a melon that always had a split in it's top fin (not the hard rays). I have Andrew's book too, but I have always been a bit sqeamish about doing it. I'll have another read later. Do you think the fish felt pain?

There is no pain unless there are nerves.

Yep - but does that area get nerves?

Works on all soft rays and it took about a week to grow back.

I just layed the fish on its side with the eyes covered with a portion of the net. I used surgical scissors. No pain at all

Yes, not the entire portion, just prior to the split.
