I have a 75G with a RENA Filstar II filter. It's lightly planted and I have 6 discus (2 young, 4 young adults). They have different types of filter media paks for the different compartments. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on which ones would be better suited for a discus tank. Some have charcoal and I'm a little worried about introducing that into my tank. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Here are my choices: Bio-Chem Zorb, Nitra-Zorb, Phos-Zorb, and Zeolite.

I use the Bio Chem Zorb in my XP3 on my 75. No problems, its not all charcoal in it anyway, its a mix of resins and charcoal. Or you could just add more bio media since I think you'll need it with 6 Discus, especially once they get larger, and the XP2.

On your planted tank the plants are using most of the nitrates and phosphates. If anything, depending on your lighting and or c02, you need to add more.
I run 2 xp3's and an xp4 on my 300 gallon and I only use the foam blocks and chem stars.

agree with steve that the biological filtration is the real focus of the filter and the rest is way down on the importance scale.

I have 5 xp's and also agree with using the foam blocks and bio-media only. I use ceramic bio-media though.
