Cleaning Bare Bottom Tanks

just wondering what the best way to clean bare bottom tanks is....I have just a Marina siphon hose with attachment, but it does not pick up debris like I would like and always leaves a bit behind. Do people hook up a pump to the siphon hose and does that give better cleaning capability as i would definitely like to get it cleaner then it is...any info would be greatly appreciated.

I've always found it handy to go in,and manually loosen anything from the bottom turning it into loose debris,which the vac will suck right up.
