Rena smartfilter 55?

I just recently bought one of these Rena Smartfilter 55s. The problem that Im having is that it keeps sucking air after I turn it on its been doing so for about a half of an hour now. Also it vibrates pretty loudly. Does anybody experience these symptoms with their Rena Smartfilters? I hope its not a characteristic of these filters. Its obnoxius.
