i have a 125 gallon tank i have started getting set up but i have been reading the fourms and everyone says that 2.5 to 3 in discus should be raised in a much smaller tank and then introduced to the show tank any info would be greatly appreciated how about an 80gallon tank go bare bottom and raise them then itro into planted tank?

I would grow them out on a smaller tank IMO, made the mistake myself and the juvies were skittish and more stressed out. I moved them to a smaller tank they did better. Plus finding food is easier for them and its critical at that age. Like most Hobbist says in this forum grow them out on a 55g or something at that range. Good luck

One consideration is that water changes of the kind that are recommended for maximum growth would be easier and cheaper in a smaller tank.
