onion bulb plant dead?

I started with 3 onion bulb plants. They grew decent in my low light and no CO2 for about six months. Then just a few weeks ago, they all started dying at the same time. Is something wrong with the water or do the plants have seasons? Cuz all the leaves came off the bulb but the bulb and roots still look healthy. So is it really dead? Or will it sprout again?

If the bulbs and roots aren't all rotted, keep them planted because they should come back. I had the same thing happen to my onion plant, so maybe they do go through seasons.
