Hey all---Finally got my hands on an iphone and get to post pics of my 75 gallon discus tank. I've been following this board for quite a while and have appreciated seeing everyone's nice fish and tanks.

I've got a 75 gallon Marine Land Aquarium with the following:

3 Discus (1 Super red Melon, 1 Pigeon Stripe, 1 Blue Snake Skin)
2 Angels (1 orange, 1 koi)
2 Apistogramma Caucatoides Flash
5 Cory Cat's (Emerald and Albino)

Pool Filter Sand as substrate. Lights--48'' Coralife Lunar Aqualight Deluxe (4 65 watt PC's, though I only run 2 on this tank, to avoid algal growth)

Sorry for the crappy pics---I could only get one decent full length shot. Would love some comments!

Looks really good. Love the blue background, what colour is that? It really shows the colours of the fish off well.

Hey, thanks. It's just a stock aquarium stick on background (blue on one side, black on the other)--I'm sorry I don't have more specific details on that.

Well it looks great on your tank. Is this your first timer using sand? I have only gone over to it in the last say 4-6 weeks or so.

I've had sand in my tank since August 2008; It looks great and is very easy to clean. I did notice, though, with really high light levels algae can grow on the sand----staining it green. I cut back on the light and it hasn't been an issue.

Hey All....Thanks a lot! I had several different iterations of discus over time. Most recently I had 5 discus in the tank (however the blue snakeskin male you see is very aggressive--so aggressive that the other two males were constantly cowering in a corner).

The only solution was to either remove him or them. When I first tried removing him, one of the other males became very aggressive to the third. Finally, I realized that only one male was going to make it in that tank.
I kept the Blue Snake Skin and the other two are females---everyone gets along great, in fact the blue has mated with both females. If I add any more discus in the future, it will only be females.

Chrst---Great setup also man. That large wooden stump is pretty cool---I love apistos too, but have always had bad luck keeping shipped ones alive for long periods. These two right now are the longest i've ever had last (going on about 1.5 months now).

my snakeskin is also a bully... i have a blue diamond that is new, and he hasn't eaten for 3 weeks.. he's all in the corner.. they bullied him good the first 2 weeks.. but now i see him swimming out with the group. .but still he's the first one that gets chased... slowly but surely he's coming around.. . even when i go to feed, he comes out and to my hand like the others, just doesn't eat... grrr.

keep up the good work man`

Thanks. I've always been a fan of the heavier planted tanks---but the constant pruning, fertilizers, CO2 pretty much kept me away from it. I realized early that for me, my neuroses want the tank to be in show quality all the time, and its tough with lots of live plants without putting in a ton of effort.

Next best thing for me is a minimalist, almost Zen like Tank with just bit of foliage and wood. The only thing I can't stand are non-maintained tanks---the ones you see at doctor's offices that are overgrown with algae, dead plants, etc.... The sand was a natural choice to keep the "clean" look.

nice tank! i'm sure the plants will fill out with time.

i have an angel tank and the swords are doing awesome but the water is pretty hard here. i don't think discus would like it very much. i may try one of these days.
