Here is my 94 gallon corner (not my first choice of tanks but is was exchanged for my coral credit when my 300 gallon reef sprung a leak). I GE Siliconed in some Cypress Knees (after letting them soak and leach for a month), contains 2 medium Royal Greens, 9 Rummynose, 13 Cardinal's, 3 L-177 Irirri Seam Pleco's, 7 Adolfoi Cory's & 4 Blue Rams. Likely I will be adding 3 to 4 more larger Royal Green's very soon. The only thing I don't like is I got the Jungle Val and it has grown too tall, I should have gotten a shorter species. Tell me what you think

Hey Mark, i really like it,it's really neat and i like that fact that the val. is tall, kinda creates a little overhang to dapple the light. It is well thought out. I have 72 gal rounded corner glass that i havent set up yet, trying to get ideas, not a fan of substrate, but i like plants and driftwood. Your discus's look great and look natural in their surroundings, good choice on the wild's. send more pics. when your plants have matured more. good luck

Thanks, substrate is the $4 bags of river gravel from HD (washed thoroughly of course) and sandbox sand (ditto). Tank is 2 months old and was pea green for 2 weeks until a put a UV sterilizer on it. Florida water is soooooo bad....

Your tank is beautiful but those two discus are beyond beautiful! I like the cypress knees, where do you get them? Any trouble so far with keeping the gravel clean? Do you vac it? Thanks for letting us see your lovely tank!

Everything looks really nice, including the Discus, they are beautiful. I love that wood too. Cypress Knees? Is that sold only in Florida? I like the plant floating on top of the water.

Beautiful tank, especially the discus. I think that the val looks nice. Do you add co2?

Chris

No CO2, just a massive phosphate dose.....every time i do a water change (Florida water has a lot of phosphate). I bought the Cyprees Knees at Tropiflora which is around the corner from my house, I thought Cypress was protected but have since seen a couple others with it for sale (mostly terrarium supply..and yes located here in Florida). Cypress is so hard it does not saturate easily so after letting leach for a month or so sitting in my stationary tub filled with tap water, I then dried it out and siliconed it into the bottom of my new tank, after a week of curing I then filled the tank with everything else.

You have Blue Discus, Symphysodon haraldi.
Be sure that you buy more of the same and not Green Discus, S. aequifasciata.
It is best to keep each of the 3 wild Discus species with their own kind. The each have specific needs and none do as well as they should if mixed with other species.
Your Blue Discus look like they are doing well and they are very nice specimens.

These were the 2 smallest out of a tank of several Tefe Royal Green's, the smallest is now starting to get red spots on it's side. Would Blue's get red spots? The guy also had Royal Blues and had them seperated, that is the way he got them from the exporter in SA.

Red dots are species specific sign for green discus, they can only be found on green discus.

Love the tank and the discus. Great job. If you don't like the tall vals, then prune them. I cut my vals every three or four weeks. They grow like weeds. :)

I thought I was clear when I told you that you do not have "Royal Green Discus". You don't have any color form of Green Discus. You have 2 nice Blue Discus, Symphysodon haraldi.
Green Discus are Symphysodon aequifasciata.
Why not learn that there is a difference and that you have very nice Blue Discus not any color form of Green Discus.
Look at my avatar photo. That is a Blue Discus too, very much like your own.
Try asking about this in the wild discus section if you do not believe me. I am considered by most hee to be credible and knowledgeable about wild discus. I only began breeding them 40 years ago before there were all the fancy domestics.
Different discus species should not be kept together. If your supplier thinks those are Green Discus then he is clueless.
Here are some Nhamunda wild Blues. They tend to more red than some Blues but note the clear blue and red anal fin stripes. This is diagnostic of all blues.

This is a common Green Discus. It has as much striping in the anal fin as you will ever see in greens but they are actually not continuous and are really made of red spots that ran together. More red in the form of spots appear over a broad area.
See the green discus threads for much better examples of the red spotted anal fin diagnostic of greens. note the difference in the base color of the ggreen discus body. It is not brown or red-brown like Blues. Note how Green Discus have a prominent dark "ring around their outside edge of their fins. This is another difference and Blues show less contrast of this dark peripheral ring.

These are much better photos and I agree these are very nice Green Discus.
The original shots looked more like Blues to me.
