I understand that there are various choice for float valve to shut off RO/DI units for storage container and there is even one for aquarium top off. I noticed that all of them are for gravity feed or drip such as an RO unit. What I am looking for is one that would work with standard pressure from household plumbing.

I am sure that the ASOV that comes with these kit will not work with the higher pressure. What are the choices out there without having to with something that is not mechanical?

I use the ones that are rated for standard water pressure. Look in the mail order fish catalogs or online. Mine are made by Kent. They are called "manual float valves". I have 2 or them and so far they have not failed to turn off the water into my storage tanks.
I mix 50/50 ro/tap. I fill the tanks 50% with tap and then turn the ro on and let it turn itself off via the valve. Don T.

I was looking for the same type pressure valve Van. I was looking for one as an auto shut off on tanks when refilling after w/c. These valves may help you. I ordered some of the 1/2".

Don,

Are you referring to something like this?

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=20412

This is what I was thinking of using but I am worry that it will not support the pressure if the source is not an RO unit.

I use this. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=5607 for my RO to storage trash bin and it works well.

Kenny,

I think the link you provided will work. I'll have to look into it.

Thank you both.

I just bought a solenoid and a float valve from Jehmco. John there is very helpful, and after I explained what I was after, he recommended the items that were not listed on his web page, but that were what I needed. He has lots of experience with this stuff. Google Jehmco and give him a call. -Don

I guess it depends on what size limitation you are working with. If you are not limited very much you could do a standard float valve:http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories/810/Mechanical-Float-Valves

Or if you need something a bit more compact:http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories/813/Float-Valve

Those are your mechanical options. If you are willing to go electric float switch than you have other options as well. As Don suggested above, an electric float switch and solenoid valve works great and are extremely compact. There are many options when talking electric float switches...just depends on how it'll be used.

I think Jemco has several types of valves, both mechanical and electrical, and YES they are good people to deal with! Don T.

Just to update, I ended up using the float valve from DrFosterSmith http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=20412 and added an inline flow restrictor used on RO unit.

This wasn't a setup for me but my friend is very happy of the result. It takes a while to fill but it's doing it's job. The only downside is that these float valve were made to clip on the side of the tank but it doesn't work for tanks with a big lip (basically anything above 55gal).
