Discus produce excess slime and it starts to build up on the the tank surfaces and anything in the tank. That build up is a breeding ground for all kinds of unwanted bugs/bacteria.

I literally reach into my tanks and wipe all surfaces before a water change. I do this either every day or every other day. Alot depends on how you feed, what you feed and stocking levels of the tank. Bigger tank, less build up, smaller tank, more build up.

Some people don't have to wipe the surfaces because they use standard plecos. Not sure about the methods used to keep the plecos from eating the fishes slime but I have 8 babies now that will be going into training. :D

Take care,

Eddie
