sizing my Discus

Do you measure front to back or top to bottom? I guess the one would include the tail. Please advise I need to buy a mate for my breeding female.

you measure from front to back...most people measure TL (total length) ...this includes the tail. from the tip of the lip, to the end tip of the tail fin. another way to measure is SL (standard length) ...this does NOT include tail...its from the tip of the lip to the end of the body, right before the tail starts.

LOL I draw fish on paper and tape it to the outside of the tank. These are looking a bit worn though.

Martha, that's a great idea! better looking than a strip of paper with numbers on it. Mind if I use that technique?
