Not as involved as some tanks..........but I like it

Simple silica sand, coarse Sand blasting sand.........well rinsed and a very fine white sand I picked up from the pet store. About a 2:1 mix.

The wood is from Manzanita Burlworks

AND I like it too. You may not have seen my question to you on the other post, so I'll ask again. That background is seriously cool. Where'd you get it if you don't mind?

I got it off of Ebay...

Search for "Ocean Sea Blue/Driftwood Aquarium Background"

The Ebay store that is selling it has multiple sizes for a wide variety of tanks

Nice tank Rick. The retaining walls make it look like your fish are strolling around someone's backyard. :-)

Rick........I like that tank as well!!!! That retaining wall is pretty slick and took some time to put together I am sure.

JRod.... FYI, use SeaView to help adhere the background to the glass. You can get it from the same guy that is selling the background or at your LFS. After using the stuff I had several bubbles between the glass and the background, which you can see in the picture. The easiest way I found to get rid of them was to use a credit card edge to move the bubbles to the edge. Not sure if this is common knowledge.....but I thought I would offer it up....

Can anyone tell me how hard the planted tank by Takashi Amano would be to reproduce? Any special lighting, or any need for CO2? That is by far one of my most favorite tanks.

Here are some pics of my 7ft long 210 gallon in progress...I need to take some updated pics, maybe this weekend. The wood is a little more water logged now and sits a bit lower...and I have the brazilian pennywort wrapped around a branch instead of just floating...I also removed the floating anacharis for now.

Hello Matt,
By far one of the best one's yet. I love the way the drift wood doesn't touch the sand.I'm going to do that to my display tank.If you can show or explain to us how it's done I would appreciate it.
GOOD LUCK !!!!!

Thanks!

Strains:

Albino Checkerboard
Eruption Leopard
Carnation Turquoise
Altum Flora
Albino Snakeskin or White Butterfly...depending on budget (WB will pepper probably)
Cobalt Snakeskin

They'll have to be at least 4" because of the planted tank...I'm aiming for early next year for the discus. In the meantime, I'm doing lots of reading, saving up, and being very...very...patient. :)

My guess is that the driftwood isn't completely water logged yet...that's why it's floating. I've seen some people put a piece of wood and clamp it to the sides of the tank (like you would a brace) and then drill the wood into it. That's pretty hardcore. I'm trying to 'hang' my driftwood now....but I don't want to attach it to the center brace. I'm thinking that's a 'bad' idea ;)

i highly recommend the carnation turks from Kenny. also, you can't go wrong with the AF's.

You are correct!

The wood wasnt completely water logged...but it is now. A few branches are now touching the sand...and thats good because when you do water changes they are going to touch anyway..so now I can put them where I want and when I do a water change they stay in place and dont move.

As for holding the wood together, I used stainless steel screws and attached all the branches to a main piece which was the thickest. Make sure you pre-drill the holes before you put the screw in...otherwise the wood could split.

I will take some new pics soon.
