I noticed that Jim has now made it official and announced the website, but it is in the NADA poll thread and I was afraid that it might be missed so I wanted to also post it here. If ya'll ever want to have a discus only club that is going to have shows aimed directly at the discus world here in North America then now is the time that we need your support. It is going to be a great show, but it is also going to cost money. Please register early and even if you can not make it to the show we will be having several raffles between now and the show to raise money. It is also possible to sponsor one of the speakers. Remember this is really our starting point. Where we go from here will depend on where our members take us. A club is only as strong as the members that it represents.

Now let the registrations begin...

Thanks.

Hi Mench,

I just spoke to the hotel and there should be plenty of double bed rooms available. The rep I spoke with suggested you call their toll free # at 800-934-7972 and speak to a sales representative if there are any booking problems. Be sure to let them know you are booking for the NADA show to get the discounted rate.

Please let me know if you need any additional info.

Thanks,
-jim

Now that the website is done, you have to start promoting it. To promote NADA show's website you should probably advertise with the search engines. So when people search for "discus" or "discus fish", your ad link will appear on the left hand side of the search results page letting people know about the upcoming show.

http://sem.smallbusiness.yahoo.com/s...marketing.php?

www.adwords.google.com/

http://advertising.microsoft.com/sea...nt-advertising

You also should create a small ad banner. A simple gif file banner that could say: "Discus Fish Show 2010". Have the banner link back to the show information web page. Then just ask discus related websites or maybe Simply Sponsors to place the small banner on their website's index page. That's the quickest way to get the word out to your targeted audience.

You could also try joining http://www.aquabanners.com/
to get some more free publicity.

Also somebody in the club with video editing expertise could make a simple youtube video giving information on the discus show with a link back to the show's information page.

Finally, you could also ask Jack Wattley to mention the upcoming show in his TFH column with a listing of the website address.

My links for the search engine advertising didn't work. Here they are:

http://advertising.yahoo.com/smallbusiness/ysm

http://adwords.google.com/

http://advertising.microsoft.com/

It would probably cost around .15 - .20 cents a click to get on the 1st page of the search engine results targeting words like "discus" or "discus fish". Google is probably the best search engine to advertise with since they are the most popular.

You can also place your ads on specific websites that have google ads: like www.Aquabid.com, www.aquariacentral.com and www.monsterfishkeepers.com.
Getting your ads to appear on those sites might cost a little more. You also can limit your ads by geography. So your ads won't appear in foreign countries.

Youtube has lots of videos on using adwords.

Roberto, the website is great. But it's no good if most people don't see it. You have to actively promote the site. Since NADA has limited funds, they probably should use the internet to try to promote the site as cheaply as possible. I listed 4 free ways they could promote the show site.

Another free way of promoting the NADA show website is to assign a NADA member to go to every tropical fish forum and post an announcement of the upcoming show with a link to the shows website in all the forum's "upcoming events" category.

NADA could also start a free facebook page. The ACA has one. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=47525947234

Finally advertising on the search forums(google, yahoo, bing) is an incredibly cheap way to target specific people(discus hobbyists) that you want to advertise to. If you want a large turnout for a national show, you have to get the word out quickly and on a large scale.

Thanks for all the great info and suggestions, we definitely appreciate it! We also really appreciate volunteers that can help make those suggestions into reality.

We are in the process of working on executing a well rounded marketing campaign that includes not only the web presence suggested but also strong networking with local, regional, and national fish organizations and retailers.

We can certainly use more volunteers to help us execute our plan.

Thanks,
-jim

Terps , I see you have a great background with marketing . NADA is always looking for volunteers to help make the Big Dream come true . You might be able to help . Why don't you contact NADA' s Board and volunteer your knowledge and resources .
I'll be honest, in all my activities and clubs I belong to I have developed a dislike towards the " Peanut Gallery " on the sidelines . Most likely I have mistaken your intentions .
Please contact Jim or Jerry and be of help.

Roberto Munoz

I wish we had names and locations for evey member so we would have an idea of whom we are addressing !

Like Mr Nicholson said we will need help.Last weekend was TCA show here in Texas. And I had the opportunity to help tear down tanks and break down the racks. This show had a about 100 tanks setup 2/3 of them were just 10 gallon tanks.Which Nada will not be using the 10 gal tanks for the show but will be using 20 gallon tanks.Which the TCA is nice enough to loan there tanks and equipment for the NADA show. There was about 8 of us tearing things down it took about 7 hours for tear down and return to storage. So yes we will need help setting up and tearing down our set ups.So any people wanting to help please do we will really need it.Also might want to bring some dry clothes just think of the massive water change at the begining and end of the show.
