putting sand over gravel?

hey everyone,


i have a planted tank that im making as discus safe as possible, so my question is this;

Can i pour sand ( silica sand) over my gravel as it is ( silica gravel/seachem flourite 3"-4"). i was thinking a pretty heavy layer 2''+ of sand after the gravel gets a very thorough cleaning of course.

not sure with discus, but i know alot of people who have done this with fronts and the layer look doesn't last as the sand will naturally fall between the stoned gravel and eventually lift gravel to the surface, i hope this helps, but if you are looking for just the look of sand why not remove gravel and replace with sand of choice?

think of it as a 4 hour job for a nice saturday afternoon

2" of sand is a lot, especially when on top of gravel, with that much substrate i think your asking for trouble
