hey.. two months after my tank was established. i was happy to see that 2 of them started shaking together.. and few days later i saw eggs! was really happy to found out i already have a pair (snakeskin and blue diamond). for 2 days both parents guarded the eggs and took care of it. I dont know which one is male or female in that pair. But today i see some other (red turq) started shaking and (blue diamond who was pair with snakeskin) now seems to be pairing with req turq (new one that just started shaking)... the snakeskin is still faithfully taking care of eggs.. but the bluediamond is already going with another fish.. is that usual? i thought discus were faithful to their mate.. didnt know they were players!!!

I believe discus can be just like humans when it comes to mates! Just let them work it out and see who wins!

Discus are not monogamous, despite many people keeping them as mated pairs. I doubt they would mate more that once together in nature.

Both members of my one pair do some flirting with other fish, depending on circumstances, although it's never progressed to the "shaking" phase.

Knowing the sex of each has allowed me to know the sex of a few others, even though they're not really ready to mate... well, at least it would appear that way...

Pair bonding may deepen over time- dunno. Way too many variables to predict the future on that one...

I once had a big male simultainously spawn with two females in the same 55 gal tank, at opposite ends, with 3 other discus in the tank as well. He was quite busy running from end to end, while chasing off a smaller male. Both spawns were eventually eaten by the females.

Eddie,

Hughe Heffner gave me a formula for a special herbal concoction that has worked wonders for him, myself, and my discus over the years.

I have a female Albino PB that has spawned with 3 different males. She has a problem eating eggs so I will always remove her and put her in the main tank but then she will just spawn with a male in there, spawns every 3-5 days, and dosen't care who the male is. Larry
